Streams poetry project
Streams Poetry Project is a collaboration between Em Postl, Thomas Hoeller, and poems written by other people. Improvisational, intuitive, and stream-like in nature, their compositional practice allows for the poem (and poet) to act as an equal collaborator in the creation of each song. Streams emerged in 2016 while Em and Thomas were working together on another project, and it continues to evolve with every new poem and collaborator they invite into the process. Currently, Em and Thomas are working on a grant to fund their debut album which will include new compositions created in collaboration with a handful of B.C. poets. and feature Elisa Thorn (harp), Kevin Romain (drums) and James Meger (bass). As a listener, you may recognize some verses but the hope is that you connect with their meanings in new ways as you lose yourself in the introspective, inventive and intimate sounds.
Thomas Hoeller is a recording studio manager, engineer and producer at Terrestrial Sound Studio (Van Lefan, LxTox, Georgia Lee Johnson), guitarist (Tonye Aganaba, Missy D, Mike WT Allen’s Space Elevator, Omianan, Moondle, Terence Jack) and music educator. He also teaches as an adjunct professor at SFU (lecture on the physics of sound).
Em Postl is a queer non-binary vocalist (Only a Visitor, Moondle, Songs for a Lost Pod) and voice teacher (Sweet Flag Voice Studio) who teaches gender affirming voice lessons and singing lessons. They graduated from Capilano University in 2014 with a bachelors in Jazz Voice Performance and have continued their education with the Estill method and gender affirming voice teaching certifications.
